In a remarkable initiative to promote environmental awareness and sustainable waste management, students from South Eastern University of Sri Lanka (SEUSL) had the privilege of meeting Mohamed Ismail Rasheed, the Chairman of Orbit Lanka Private Limited. The visit provided an insightful experience, enabling students to witness firsthand the recycling process at Orbit Plastic Factory in Palamunai.

A Journey into the World of Recycling

The students embarked on a tour of Orbit Plastic Factory, where they observed the various stages of recycling, from waste collection to the transformation of plastic materials into high-quality raw materials. They explored the advanced machinery used in processing PP, LDPE, and HDPE plastics, gaining valuable knowledge about efficient waste management techniques.

Key Highlights of the Factory Visit:

  • Plastic Collection & Sorting: Students learned about the initial stages of recycling, where plastic waste is gathered and categorized based on type and quality.
  • Cleaning & Processing: They observed how plastic waste undergoes thorough cleaning and is processed into reusable raw materials.
  • State-of-the-Art Machinery: The visit provided a closer look at the advanced technology used in crushing, melting, and reforming plastic into new products.

A Special Session with the Chairman

Following the factory tour, the students were warmly welcomed into the Chairman’s office, where they engaged in an informative session with Mohamed Ismail Rasheed. The discussion revolved around Orbit Plastic’s vision, sustainability goals, and the importance of recycling in building a cleaner Sri Lanka. The Chairman emphasized the role of young minds in environmental conservation and encouraged students to actively participate in sustainable initiatives.

Hands-On Training & Awareness

The visit concluded with an interactive training session, where students were educated on:

  • Best practices in waste management.
  • The environmental impact of plastic pollution.
  • Innovative recycling methods that contribute to sustainability.

Inspiring the Next Generation

The visit to Orbit Plastic Factory proved to be an eye-opening experience for SEUSL students. It not only provided them with practical knowledge of recycling but also inspired them to be advocates for a greener future. By witnessing the recycling process and engaging with industry leaders, these students are now more equipped to contribute towards sustainable waste management in Sri Lanka.

At Orbit Plastic Factory, we believe that the youth play a crucial role in shaping a cleaner tomorrow. We look forward to collaborating with more institutions and individuals who share our vision for a sustainable future.
